Contributor Day

WordCamp US 2022 Contributor Day will be held on September 11, 2022, in the Pacific Ballroom at the Town and Country Resort. We will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (-7 UTC).

What is Contributor Day?

Contributor Day is a day we spend contributing to the WordPress open source project. At contributor day, there will be a variety of teams to participate with that work on different parts of the project. You can learn more about the different teams that make up the WordPress open source project by going to Make.WordPress.org.

You can participate with a single team for the whole day, or spend your time between multiple teams. Whatever path you choose, there is something for everyone, of all ability levels, to participate in.

In Person Participation

If you are planning to participate in Contributor day in person, we’re glad to have you! We’ll be starting our day at 10a.m. with opening remarks and intros, and then we’ll get to work. If it’s your first time attending a Contributor Day, someone will be happy to help get you set up. You can learn more about what teams will be doing on the Contributor Day Teams page.

Virtual Participation

If you are planning to participate in Contributor Day from home, welcome! A great place to start that day is in the #contributor-day channel in Make WordPress Slack. From there, you can join the channel for the team(s) you plan to participate with and someone can help you get started. You can learn more about what teams will be doing, what Slack channels to join, and review onboarding materials on the Contributor Day Teams page.

What should I bring?

  • Laptop – You’ll need to be able to access the Make WordPress Slack instance and the team’s online-based onboarding materials.
  • Name Badge – You’ll need your name badge to enter the ballroom, or be able to show your VOW clearance on your smartphone.

Resources

  • Onboarding Document – This onboarding document to help walk you through the basics of getting ready for Contributor Day.
  • WordPress Jargon Glossary – This WordPress Jargon Glossary will help you understand some of the terms that you might hear during the day.
  • Contributor Day Teams – This listing of the Contributor Day Teams shares what each team does, and what they’ll be doing that day.

Please Note: If you plan to contribute to the core, design, or meta teams, you’ll likely need to set up a local development server, we recommend Varying Vagrant Vagrants (VVV). These setup instructions will walk you through how to set that up. If you’re not able to get this working on your own, someone can help during the day.
