One of the best things about WordCamp has always been the opportunity to learn by doing.
Whether you’re attending your very first WordCamp or you’ve been curious about WordPress for years, the WP 101 and WP 202 workshops are designed to help you take that first step with confidence. Bring an idea, a laptop, and a willingness to explore, and our volunteer WordPress educators will help you build the foundation of a website that can continue to grow with you long after WordCamp ends.
A workshop, not a lecture
The WP 101 sessions are delivered using an experiential learning approach. Rather than spending hours watching presentations or listening to someone talk about the software, you’ll learn a concept, apply it immediately, and continue building throughout the session.
WP 101 will be offered every day during the first three days of WordCamp US, with the same core material presented each day. Choose the session that best fits your conference schedule. Or attend more than once if you’d like additional guided time to continue building your site.
Throughout each session, our team of instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of creating pages, organizing content, working with themes, and other concepts that help explain how modern WordPress sites come together. Every new topic is immediately followed by time to experiment, ask questions, and continue building your own project.
By the end of your workshop, you’ll have worked directly in WordPress while creating a real website around your own interests and goals.
These sessions are a perfect starting point for anyone with something to share. Want to start a blog? Build a portfolio? Launch a business website? Share your photography? Publish your writing? Promote your nonprofit? Whatever brought you to WordCamp, we’ll help you give it a home on the web.
Your WordCamp US ticket also includes opportunities to obtain hosting for a substantial discount at the end of our workshop, making it easy to continue your project after the conference ends. Hosting discounts are generously provided by our conference sponsors at WordPress.com and Pressable.
What you’ll need

What you won’t need
- No additional registration is required to attend any of the learning sessions.
- You won’t need to have access to an existing WordPress account to participate. Our workshops will use WordPress Playground which is free and runs in your browser.
- No previous WordPress experience is required.
- You won’t need to write a single line of code.
Beyond the basics
On the final day of WordCamp US, we’ll build on the foundational knowledge from the previous sessions with WP 202. We’ll explore topics like accessibility, search engine optimization, Full Site Editing, and other practical skills that help transform a good website into one that’s ready to grow.
We’ll also leave plenty of room for your questions and help connect the dots to the broader WordPress ecosystem. Curious about selling products online? Need a contact form?
