Rochester WordPress community is vibrant and growing. We have a regular meeting every 3rd Monday with different topics (led by a variety of different people), or site clinics, or site peer reviews. We’ve inceased our average attendance from 10 to 20+ for our meetups. We also have monthly coworking where anyone can join us from 9am to 4pm (or any part of that) and simply work in the same space, offer advice and opinions, and seek/offer help with one another’s projects. We often go to lunch together and generally enjoy one another’s company.
In 2018 we held our first WordPress Hackathon where we created three new websites for local nonprofits. Twenty people came and during the course of the day all three teams created sites worthy of publishing. We had a healthy competition, and the winning site won a $100 Amazon gift card for the charity they worked with.
Also in 2018 one of our members was moving and posted on her Facebook account that she could use some help and when/where to meet. Imagine her surprise when FIFTEEN people came to help, and THIRTEEN of them were from the WordPress meetup.
We have become more than a community, we have become friends and family.
