The Chicago WordPress Community Meetup was established in 2011 by Becky Davis and monthly meetings have been held on the North Side ever since. We meet at a nice neighborhood bar, close to the red line that has a back room for karaoke. The screen and projector were already there, we helped them get WiFi going and it’s a perfect spot. Every meetup offers some time to ask for help and give it, folks come in, get acquainted, order a burger and beer, and then we start the presentation about an hour in.
Starting in 2018, South Side meetings were added with the help of China Dostal. They meet in a nice room at the public library. Chicago is a big metropolis and the city is very long, it’s great to have something to offer that area of the city.
We encourage speakers to come from the membership and strive to be as inclusive as possible. At our meetings, we have a large range of expertise and we create an environment where members that are new to WordPress feel really comfortable asking questions. Our meeting topics range from high level and introductory to low level and much more technical. The format of our meetings is diverse as well, most months we have a subject matter expert present and other months we meet and create a space where tips and tricks can be shared in an informal setting. The feedback we consistently get back after meetings is that members are thankful they attended, invigorated about WordPress, and excited to share.
