Past vs Present: How We’re Evolving the Speaker Selection Process

The spirit of WordCamps is to hear from a diverse group of people on a diverse group of topics relevant to those who use and make WordPress.

WordCamps are organized by volunteers. The number of volunteer hours that go into planning, organizing, and producing any WordCamp are vast. For flagship camps, like WordCamp US, the number of organizers and volunteer hours goes through the roof.

In an effort to select the best content possible for WCUS 2019 and to be a good steward of volunteer hours, we (the Programming Team) are experimenting with a new speaker selection process.

WordFest will be held at City Museum

This year we are shaking things up! Our WordCamp party, now officially called WordFest will be held 7:00pm Friday, November 1, 2019, at City Museum in St. Louis. We have changed the name from After Party to WordFest as the event does not need to necessarily be held at the end of the WordCamp.

Less than a mile away from America’s Center Convention Complex, where our programming will take place, City Museum will be fun for all ages of WordCampers. WordCamp US will have the whole venue to ourselves to network, relax, and have loads of fun. City Museum is a world-renowned interactive place of wonder. WordCampers will enjoy snacks, drinks, a 10-STORY SLIDE, beautiful mosaics, and even a giant praying mantis. If that does not interest you, there is also a rooftop Ferris wheel that you can ride with that new friend you made during the hallway track.

WordCamp US Expanding Its Team: Apply Today

November 2019 marks the 5th year for WordCamp US. Like many events, WordCamp US is evolving over time. Over the past year we’ve thought a lot about suggestions from the community and lessons learned from past events.

In our after-event recaps, two of the things that became immediately clear were that WordCamp US needed to move its dates and to increase its team members.
