Angel Sopena

Angel came to the U.S. from Puerto Rico without a traditional academic background, but with a drive to figure things out on his own. Like many immigrants, he had to find his own path and WordPress was one of the first tools that made that truly possible.

Through its open ecosystem, free resources, plugins, and a global community that never made him feel like an outsider, he taught himself web development and SEO from scratch. No degree. No formal training. Just curiosity, persistence, and a platform that met him where he was.

What started as self-education quickly turned into something bigger. Angel realized that WordPress wasn’t just a website builder it was an equalizer. It gave him the same tools that big agencies had, without the big agency budget.

When he discovered how naturally WordPress handled multilingual content, and location-based SEO, everything clicked. Here was a platform that could speak to his community Latino business owners, Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs, bilingual families in a way that most digital tools simply didn’t bother to.

That discovery shaped the next chapter of his career. Angel went on to work across four digital marketing agencies, co-founding two of them, and collectively serving more than 2,000 clients across industries including beauty, healthcare, retail, and tourism.

Through every campaign and every client, bilingual marketing remained at the core learning how to reach English and Spanish-speaking audiences simultaneously locally, understanding the cultural nuances that make the difference between a message that lands and one that gets ignored, and using WordPress and its plugin ecosystem to make it all manageable, scalable, and effective.

Along the way, Angel became a voice for the Latino business community. He was featured as a speaker on Univision, trained over 100 Latino business owners in digital marketing strategies, and organized an AI Summit in Puerto Rico that brought together more than 40 local entrepreneurs to explore how artificial intelligence could transform their businesses.
These weren’t just speaking engagements — they were an extension of the same mission that WordPress had first made feel possible: that the right tools and the right knowledge, in the right hands, can change lives.

Today, Angel is channeling all of that experience into Emprendedores AI, a new comunity he built to teach Latino entrepreneurs how to use SEO, WordPress, and AI tools to grow their businesses.

The platform is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: that multicultural and multilingual communities around the world represent one of the biggest untapped opportunities in digital marketing today. In the U.S. alone, the Latino market accounts for over $3.7 trillion in purchasing power — and that is just one example of how brands and businesses consistently underestimate the value of reaching people in their own language and culture.

Whether it is Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America, or any other cultural group that has been overlooked by mainstream digital strategies, WordPress has proven to be one of the most accessible and powerful platforms to bridge that gap.

With the right strategy, the right plugins, and a genuine understanding of cultural context, any business can start showing up for the audiences that others are ignoring.

Angel is coming to WordCamp US not just as a speaker, but as someone whose entire career was shaped by this community and this platform. His story is proof of what WordPress makes possible — and his talk is for everyone who wants to reach the audiences that most people are still overlooking.
