Spotlight: Girls Who Code at WordCamp US 2025

Spotlight girls who code wordcamp 2025

At WordCamp US 2025, we’re celebrating community, creativity, and the people shaping the future of technology! This year, we’re especially proud to shine a spotlight on Girls Who Code, a global nonprofit leading the charge to close the gender gap in tech.

Since 2012, Girls Who Code has reached more than 670,000 students through programs in coding, AI, cybersecurity, and other emerging fields, effectively equipping the next generation with the skills and confidence to change the world. Over half of their students come from historically underrepresented groups, and their alumni are earning computer science degrees at seven times the national average.

Their mission is simple but powerful: when you teach a girl to code, she changes the world.

That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Girls Who Code students and facilitators to join us in Portland. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who added a donation to sponsor a WordCamp US 2025 ticket during checkout, your generosity is making this possible. Together, you’re helping open doors for local Girls Who Code participants and others from underrepresented communities, empowering the next generation of WordPress creators and leaders.

WordCamps around the world work hard to create an environment of inclusivity. Representation matters and that’s why this year’s stage is filled with leaders showing Girls Who Code students and facilitators what’s possible. From groundbreakers like Amy Sample Ward, Jemima Abu, and Joeleen Kennedy, to well over a dozen more, these talks highlight the creativity, expertise, and impact of women and non-binary voices in tech.

These visionaries remind us that closing the gender gap is about more than numbers. It’s about ensuring everyone can see themselves in tech, on the stage, and in the future we’re building together.

Even WordCamp organizers and community members who aren’t speaking this year are well-versed in the art of coding and developing with WordPress. That’s the beauty of WordCamps, everywhere you turn there’s an expert happy to discuss all things WordPress and coding. This year the three lead organizers are all women, how about that? Karla Campos, Megan Marcel, and Gale Wallace.
