Not Just Booths, High Traffic WordCamp Connection Zones

I’ve been part of numerous events, in different roles. You can say, I’ve seen it all. One thing that truly stands out about WordCamp events is the level of engagement I’ve witnessed in the sponsor halls. At WordCamp it’s not just booths, it’s what we call high traffic connection zones.

At some events, people stay away from sponsor halls for fear of walking into yet another sales pitch. It’s different at WordCamp, people actually enjoy the sponsor hall areas. They love getting swag and stopping at every booth for demos, activities, and conversation.

Don’t believe me? I have video/photo proof. If you have attended WordCamps before, you know what I am saying is true. If you haven’t, maybe it’s time to come see for yourself what makes WordCamp connection zones so special.

Whether you attend, speak, or plan to sponsor, you’ll find that the sponsor hall is the place to be at the event.

I’m a firm believer in “You make the event for yourself.”

What does that mean? It’s about mindset. Instead of saying, “People didn’t approach me,” you change perspective and say “How many people will I approach and what will I say to start a meaningful conversation?”

That mindset shift, changes everything. And no, it’s not about talking to people the entire time, we do have quiet areas for breaks. Trust me, I get it.

Sponsors Make It Fun!

I’m not saying you have to bring a sock puppet with fake teeth to make a splash. Shoutout to Freemius’ Sock Puppet Toney which I first saw at WordCamp Europe. Toney, we see you bud.

Think about why you would want to approach a booth. Start there.

You don’t need the biggest booth to be engaging. What matters is showing up, having fun with it, and creating conversations. I can’t wait to see what you bring to the table, literally!
