USS Blueback Submarine

The USS Blueback Submarine at OMSI in Portland is a Cold War-era vessel turned interactive museum exhibit, offering a unique glimpse into the life and technology of submariners.

Natural Sciences Hall

Turbine Hall

Lyft or Uber are a five minute ride during off-peak hours from the Oregon Convention Center to OMSI.

By Public Transit

Public transportation is a convenient and eco-friendly way to travel between the OCC and OMSI. Portland’s TriMet system offers reliable service with multiple options:

  1. Portland Streetcar:
    • Walk 0.2 miles to NE MLK & Hoyt
    • Board A-Portland Streetcar – A Loop to PSU via OMSI
    • Get off at OMSI/SE Water
    • Walk 221 feet to OMSI/SE Water
  2. Bus:
    • Board the #6 Bus at NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd & NE Holladay St: This bus runs directly south along MLK Jr. Blvd.
    • Get off at SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd & SE Clay St: Walk a short distance east on SE Clay St to reach OMSI.

By Bike or Scooter

For those who enjoy a bit of exercise and fresh air, biking or using an electric scooter is a fun and efficient way to travel. Portland is a bike-friendly city with dedicated lanes and easy rental options through services like Biketown and various e-scooter providers. The ride is approximately 2 miles and takes around 10-15 minutes.

Traveling by Foot or Bike on the Eastbank Esplanade

For those who enjoy the scenic route, traveling by foot or bike from the OCC to OMSI along the Eastbank Esplanade is picturesque with stunning views of Portland’s waterfront and skyline.

Route Overview

The walk from the OCC to OMSI is approximately 1.5 miles and takes about 30-40 minutes at a leisurely pace by foot. The Eastbank Esplanade, a pedestrian and bike path along the east bank of the Willamette River, is the highlight of this route.

By Car

Driving from the Oregon Convention Center (OCC) to OMSI is a quick and convenient option. The journey typically takes about 10 minutes, depending on traffic. Here’s a simple route to follow:

  1. Start: Exit the OCC parking area.
  2. Head South on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd: Continue straight for approximately 1.5 miles.
  3. Turn Left onto SE Clay St: Follow SE Clay St until you reach SE Water Ave.
  4. Turn Right onto SE Water Ave: OMSI will be on your left.

Paid parking ($2)  is available at OMSI through the city of Portland’s official mobile app, Parking Kitty, through the Parking Kitty webpage, or at the kiosks on the front plaza.
