Because of this, the organizing team will start onboarding in December 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#ffffff\">What kind of commitment can you expect to make?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#ffffff\">In addition to event planning tasks, squads will have weekly or bi-weekly meetings leading up to WCUS in late August-early September 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#ffffff\">Squad Captains will have an additional weekly meeting with the Lead Trio, and note that everyone&#8217;s time commitment will increase as we get closer to the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#ffffff\">Once on site, all organizers will be assigned scheduled volunteer shifts, and will have a volunteer shift at AfterCamp (formerly known as the after party).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Squad-Captains\">Squad Captains<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Squads are led by <strong>Squad Captains<\/strong> who provide project management. Squad Captains have the following roles and responsibilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Set regular check ins with their Squad<\/li><li>Attend weekly meetings with other Squad Captains and Lead Trio (\u201cLT\u201d)<\/li><li>Set goals, assign roles, and responsibilities for their Squad<\/li><li>Determine any needed tools specific to their Squad<\/li><li>Create a schedule of deadlines for their Squad<\/li><li>Raise and help to address issues as they come up<\/li><li>Report progress to the broader organizing team<\/li><li>Address challenges that may arise within the Squad<\/li><li>Help to determine on site schedule for their Squad<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"PR\/Communications-Squad\">PR\/Communications Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>PR\/Communications Squad <\/strong>will handle internal and external communications for WCUS. They will be in regular communication with other squads, and generate website content, blog posts, and social media posts to build excitement for WCUS. They will also coordinate photography, wrangle media partnerships, and write press releases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Collaborate with Design team for branding and design templates<\/li><li>Publish updates to website content<\/li><li>Generate ideas for, write, and publish blog posts<\/li><li>Social media management leading up to and during WCUS<\/li><li>Define and execute media partnerships<\/li><li>Community Spotlight outreach<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Photography-Squad\">Photography Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Photography Squad <\/strong>captures the excitement of WCUS in quality photos! They recruit photography volunteers and plan ahead to make sure that we capture all the right moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Create Call for Photographers<\/li><li>Collaborate with Design and PR\/Comms in selecting photos<\/li><li>Identify key places where photographers should be stationed<\/li><li>Manage photography volunteers on site<\/li><li>Review and curate photos post-WCUS<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Design\/Web-Squad\">Design\/Web Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Design\/Web Squad <\/strong>creates the brand of WCUS through visual and digital graphics, and manages the functionality and design of the official website. They are additionally responsible for print material, stage design, and swag coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Design<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Establish the WCUS brand<\/li><li>Create templates for PR\/Comms to use for social media posting<\/li><li>Finesse website blog posts to improve user experience<\/li><li>Design graphical elements for Wapuu, logo, t-shirt and other swag<\/li><li>Stage dressing<\/li><li>Signage&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Website<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Launch ticket sales, create coupon codes, and ticket reservation blocks<\/li><li>Develop official website<\/li><li>Website menu organization and functionality<\/li><li>Create day of website&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Swag<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Select and coordinate attendee swag items&nbsp;<\/li><li>Select and coordinate speaker swag items<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Programming-Squad\">Programming Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Programming Squad <\/strong>curates all talk and workshop content for WCUS. They launch the Call for Speakers, vet and select applications, handle all communication with speakers, create the WordCamp session schedule, and provide day-of speaker support. The Programming Squad ensures that content for WCUS is topical and exciting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Launch the Call for Speakers<\/li><li>Brainstorm topics for workshops and workshop logistics<\/li><li>Vet and select applications<\/li><li>Prepare backup speakers<\/li><li>Correspond with speakers via Email and Slack <\/li><li>Vet speaker presentations<\/li><li>Set WordCamp session schedule<\/li><li>Coordinate logistics to ensure that speakers have what they need<\/li><li>Curate the speaker emergency contact list<\/li><li>Provide day-of speaker support<\/li><li>Create speaker and session web pages in collaboration with PR\/Comms and Web\/Design<\/li><li>Arranging for speaker thank you notes<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Youth-Programming-Squad\">Youth Programming Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Youth Programming Squad <\/strong>plans and delivers KidsCamp, along with any other content for young WordPress enthusiasts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Plan content for KidsCamp<\/li><li>Help with registration processes<\/li><li>Ensure that correct contracts, background checks, and agreements are signed<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Attendee-Experience-Squad\">Attendee Experience Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Attendee Experience Squad <\/strong>is responsible for email correspondence with attendees, including allergy support, accessibility needs, and visa letters. They envision what the best experience for our attendees would look like and work to make it happen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Respond to emails from attendees<\/li><li>Manage accessibility needs, allergy requests, visa letter requests, and ticketing questions<\/li><li>Brainstorm and implement ways to enhance our attendees\u2019 experience (could range from tourist tips in collaboration with PR\/Communications team to yoga classes)<\/li><li>Signage maps in collaboration with logistics<\/li><li>Strategic planning for room layouts in collaboration with logistics<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Contributors-Squad\">Contributors Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Contributors Squad <\/strong>will facilitate everything related to Contributor Day. They coordinate with the WordPress contribution teams for projects and on-site team facilitators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Advance coordination with contribution teams for projects and team facilitators&nbsp;<\/li><li>Brainstorm and implement post-Contributor Day programming ideas<\/li><li>Facilitate Contributor Day organization<\/li><li>Facilitate pre-Contributor day onboarding workshops<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Sponsors-Squad\">Sponsors Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Sponsors Squad <\/strong>is responsible for fundraising, communicating with sponsors, reviewing sponsor marketing material and swag, as well as sponsor hall mobilization and coordination. They are the important bridge between sponsors and the WordPress community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsibilities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Determine sponsorship levels of financial contribution<\/li><li>Create tiered benefit package for each level<\/li><li>Launch Call for Sponsors<\/li><li>Develop sponsor kit for each tier<\/li><li>Communicate with sponsors daily<\/li><li>Review sponsor marketing collateral and swag<\/li><li>Coordinate with vendors for sponsor move in<\/li><li>Provide on site sponsor support<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Volunteers-Squad\">Volunteers Squad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Volunteers Squad <\/strong>recruits, administers the volunteer application process, and schedules and orients the many volunteers we rely on while on site at WCUS.
