What to Expect as a First-Time Attendee

As a first time WordCamp US attendee, you may feel overwhelmed at first. After all, this is a massive industry event that you’ve never attended, in a city you’ve never been to, with people you most likely have never met before. However, all of that disappears once you’re immersed in the collaborative, one-of-a-kind atmosphere that WordCamp US has to offer.

A Wide Array of Topics

“I attended WordCamp US as a non-developer in 2018. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised that the conference had so much to offer. I learned about marketing, public policy, technology, and so much more that I now implement in my everyday business strategy.”

Hajj Flemings, Founder of Rebrand Cities

Though each WordCamp US conference is different based on the speakers, organizers, and location, you can expect to learn lots of valuable information in a short timeframe.

While speaker topics and breakout sessions range from business to social media to blogging, the bulk of WordCamp is dedicated to all things WordPress such as usage and development.

Connection and Collaboration

Getting together to learn more about WordPress and meet fellow WordPress users face-to-face is a key reason why WordCamps exist. There is Contributor Day, where you can contribute to the WordPress Open Source Project on any of 18 contributor teams, and learn how to keep working on those teams after the day is over if you want to. Additionally, WordCamp US 2019 will host a KidsCamp that will help your child learn or improve upon WordPress development, design, and use skills!

These events, along with “birds of a feather” meetups and WordFest (see below), are just some of the many events within WordCamp US geared toward connection and collaboration.

Volunteers are Everywhere

Volunteering at WordCamps is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to give something back to the WordPress community. There are no special requirements to volunteer at WordCamp. All you need is a passion and a willingness to help make WordCamp the best experience for everyone! In fact, WordCamps are only possible because of these dedicated volunteers.

WordCamp US 2019 is looking for people who possess technical and non-technical backgrounds. Newcomers to WordPress and WordCamps are always welcomed!

Biggest “Bang” for Your Buck

WordCamp isn’t a conference meant to drain your wallet dry. At its core, WordCamp is aimed to be a low-key, fun networking event that’s affordable for everyone. This year’s WordCamp US in St. Louis, MO, offers 3 days of 50+ sessions, workshops, meetups and WordFest (see below), all for the price of $50 per ticket! That’s something not every industry conference can boast about.

Fun Perks!

Not only will you receive a t-shirt and swag at WordCamp, but you will also have the opportunity to attend WordFest on the first night of WordCamp! This year’s WordFest will take place at the City Museum in St. Louis. Less than a mile away from the convention center, WordCampers will enjoy snacks, drinks, a 10-story slide, mosaics, and even a giant praying mantis at the event. There’s also a rooftop Ferris wheel that you can ride with that new friend you made!

While this is a jam-packed event, WordCamp US is something worth getting excited for. From the 50+ sessions/workshops to WordFest, to exploring the city’s tourist spots, there’s something for everyone at WordCamp US.

You don’t want to miss out on WordCamp US 2019! There will be speakers, workshops, childcare, an incredible sponsor hall, the annual WordFest party, and more. Get your tickets to WordCamp US today!
